  1. The Metropolitan Railway, the first part of the London Underground, was authorized in 1854, construction began in 1858, and it opened to public on Jan 10, 1863.


  2. The underground is still under construction - The extenstion to Heathrow Terminial 5 is having the finishing touches made to it.

    Look up a website called Clive's Underground Guides - that contains opening dates for all sections of each line
