  2. The Bismark was sank by the British Royal Navy in 1941. There was a game of cat and mouse for a while as she had a sea battle in Scapa Flow area and was slightly damaged, the Hood did not fare so well, as a point of interest, I believe that John Pertwee was serving on the Hood but was given medical leave and left the ship just before the battle, anyway, we lost contact with the Bismark in some North Sea weather front and she double backed and headed for the repair yards of Europe. During the search for Bismark the Fleet Air Arm and RAF actually attacked a British Cruiser believing it to be Bismark. When she was finally spotted a squadron of Swordfish Bi Planes were dispatched carrying torpedo's. The Swordfish laden with a torpedo could only go about 90mph and the Bismark's guns were geared for more modern aircraft and the minimum set up was for a plane travelling at 100mph, hence all the anti aircraft shells fell short, the Swordfish made their run and a torpedo did hit the steering section and jammed the rudder. Only being able to go round in circles the Bismark was easy prey for the Naval task force sent to dispatch her.

    Hope this helps
