If you mean phone, there were portable mobile phones in cars in the late 50s. Then we had portable phones the size of brief cases, then the size of house bricks, which came along in the 80s.

First mobile phone (as they're called over here) call in the UK was made on New Year's Day 1985, by Ernie Wise (one half of the comic team Morecambe and Wise).

He called Vodafone's headquarters.  And was no doubt put on hold for ten minutes, being told that "your call is important to us"  :-)
