1. Airplane

    --------------------------------------...

We're sure you've all heard about the first attempts of flight, the glueing on of feathers to the body, and the mechanical bird machines. Well, aviation has come a long way since then and lets take a look and see how the airplane was invented.

In 1843 a british inventor named Wwilliam S. Henson drew up plans for an ariplane that would run on steam, the steam would power to propellers and the wings ould provide lift. William built one model of the plane, but, like many others after him, it didn't work. For many years people tried to get a plane off the ground, most acted like gliders, while others just fell off cliffs like rocks. In 1896 Samuel P. Langley made a working model of a steam-powered airplane. Unfortunately , when he created his full-scale version and tried to pilot it, it wouldn't fly.

It was in 1903 that two brothers, Wilbur and Orville Wright, created the first airplane. They had become interested in flying in 1890 while running a bicycle chop in Dayton Ohio. After researching all they could about flying, they began to build gliders in 1899 and flying them neear Kitty hawk, North Carolina (An area that have gusty winds and large sand dunes, perfect for flight experimentation). After many experiments regarding flight control, many of which consisted of bicycle parts, the Wright brothers created their first airplane, and the worl'd first airplane, in 1903. The airplane consisted of two wings, one over the other, that were 40' 4" long and made of a wwooden frame covered with cotton cloth. The plane also had 2 wooden propellers in the rear, which were run by a 12-horsepower gasoline engine located next to the pilot. The airplane had no wheels, instead, it had woodn runnrs that workd well with the conditions at Kitty Hawk, N.C. On December 17, 1903, Orvill Wright became the first person to fly an airplane. The flight took place in Kitty Hawk , the plane was launchd from a 60 ft. rail off of a sand flat and flew a total of 120 feet (37 meters) at 30 mph (48 kph) for about 12 seconds. On the same day the wright brothers made thre mor flights. Th longst of which wwas mad by wilbur, 852 ft (260 mtrs) in 59 sconds. By the end of 1905 the Wrights had built the first fully manuverable plane that could fly for more that 30 minutes

  2. The Wright Brothers invented it I think in 1901-1902 ?
