  1. Not to sure about the start of MX bikes,  but the first bike, [ was  really a car bike then ] it was the Daimler Benz 3 wheeled bike in 1885.

The picture above, taken in 1885, is of Gottllieb Daimler's workshop in Bad Cannstatt where he built the wooden motorcycle shown. Daimler's son Paul rode this motorcycle from Cannstatt to Unterturkheim and back on November 10, 1885. Daimler used a hot tube ignition system to get his engine speed up to 1000 rpm

The previous August, Karl Benz had already driven his light, tubular framed tricycle around the Neckar valley, only 60 miles from where Daimler lived and worked. They never met. Frau Berta Benz took Karl's car one night and made the first long car trip to see her mother, traveling 62 miles from Mannheim to Pforzheim in 1888.

  2. Sigfried Bettmann of Coventry, England -- the company name was Triumph Motorcycles..the year: 1914

No one person invented the dirt bike. People began to modify their bikes to ride in the dirt, starting with knobby tires and better suspensions, changing gearing/sprockets, frames, doing everything possible to lighten and strengthen them, getting rid of parts not needed in dirt riding (lites, horn, etc.).

The Motocross of Nations race was created in 1947

  3. the first all dirt only bikes were made in the late 40's to early 50's. Before that they used modified street bikes for early motocross competition and hare scrambles. I think that the earliest form of off road racing on a motorcycle was in the 1920's....

  4. im not too sure when their were invented, but i know the model we see nowadays was made around the 50's, but dirt biking/ moto cross started to get big back in the mid 1920's in britain, they called it "Scrambles"
