  1. Ray Tomlinson sent the first email in 1971.  He sent a test message to himself.  The message was sent from one computer to another which were side by side.  The test was done in Cambridge, Massachusetts.


  2. The very first electronic mail or email was sent in 1972.  it was Ray Tomtinson, a computer graduate from massachusotts institute of  technology who sent the first mail  interestingly, it  was also his idea to use the @ sign.

  3. I remember reading about this, it was in some U.S. university which had its own basic networked computers that were used by the lecturers for discussions. So it simply went from one room to another on the same campus. I think it was in the mid to late 70's

    It would probably be totally different to an e-mail we would recognise from today's Internet which was of course invented by an Englishman.
