  1. The first "recognized" game by the Hall of Fame was played in Montreal on March 3rd, 1875. It was "recognized" because it's the first documented organized game. This is another one of the "birthplaces" of hockey Tom just mentioned. However, there are hieroglyphics in Egypt that showed two players with a stick and object that resembles hockey, and then there are the shinny games, the British military setting up a game of stick ball on ice which turned out to be hockey, and the rest. But March 3rd, 1875 was the first organized game documented.

There's also recently discovered documents of some English explorer/captain up in the Arctic and he described a game that resembled hockey that was being played by his crew up there. The date in the journal was actually before the Montreal, Queens vs. RMC, and the Nova Scotia games.

  2. There are many conflicting theories on when and where the game of hockey started but for all accounts the game evolved out the Irish field game called Hurley. Hurley is played year round in Ireland on a field with a ball and stick. The game of Hurley was played regularly in the fields of Nova Scotia back in the early 1800's.

But when winter came around Hurley was to difficult to play because of the rough ground caused by snow so the game was eventually moved onto the ice. This new game called "Hurley on Ice" basically started at King's College in Windsor, Nova Scotia just outside of Halifax and became very popular on the East coast for the first 50 years of the 1800's.

  3. in Kingston Ontario a lake called the redeu canal

  4. about 1000 years ago when inuits tied bones to their feet and played on the ice in canada. yep, barely any one knows that but its true.

  5. I read a shirt once that said "On the 8th Day, God Created Hockey...."

So there you have it... He created everything, added men and women, then gave them something awesome to do.

  6. For many, the day the playoffs start. For some, that is the day they become fans.

    (DIS)

  7. When a T-Rex picked up a cave man and used his as a stick to shoot around a rock on ice.

  8. 1865 in Nova Scotia. How about that Nova Scotia the birthplace of one Sidney Crosby. They must have known waaaay back then the best player in the world would later be born there.

  9. 2542 BC

  10. This is a matter of conjecture. Windsor NS and Kingston Ontario both lay claim to the invention of the game of hockey. I will not attempt to go further into my reasoning at this time However let the record state that in 1886 there was an organized game between the students of Queens University and Royal Military College in Kingston. Up until then all play was unofficial.
