  2. I can't remember, it was a very long time ago.

  3. The earliest memory I have of this is from when I was about 6 (1983) - the journey was on an Intercity 125 from Newcastle to London Kings Cross. Happy days!

    Actually I have even earlier memories of going down the escalator at Haymarket station on the Tyne and Wear Metro (Newcastle), circa 1980 (when I was 3), although I don't have any corresponding memories of using the actual trains, so this probably doesn't count.

  4. I was only a few weeks old, my Mum and Dad lived in London at the time I was born and I was taken back to Aberdeenshire to meet all the relatives.

  5. If you mean being taken on one as a child, probably as a small baby. Certainly before I was old enough to remember it, as my earliest childhood memory of trains is of being used to going on them.

    If you mean travelling on my own by train, aged 9 or 10.

  7. When I was 6 I traveled on Amtrak's Southwest Chief from Albuquerque, NM to Joliet, IL. Now I work for the railroad so I am riding them all of the time

    This would be some time in the late 1950s when there were still a lot of steam trains around.

  14. maybe when I was 6 or 7. a very very very very long trip to legazpi city. (you've been there right?) when we reached my grandmother's place, I got sick due to the rugged trip. I didn't enjoy it at all. we took the bus when we returned to manila. lol
