I know this is a rather obscure question, and of no importance, but when was the last hereditary peerage given.

They don't create any heredatary peerages anymore, do they?

PS, this is regardling Britain.

  1. there has only been 5 given since 1964, but they can only go to those in parliment, or passed down to those who are legitimate children, or the titles can be sold but only within the house of commons.

  2. It was June 19, 1999 and it was the Earldom of Wessex and Viscountcy Severn, both to Prince Edward who is now known as HRH The Earl of Wessex.

In practise, no, they are not created anymore outside of the Royal Family.
