and by proper I mean lashing and lashing it down so much so that there are rivers on the track or close to being rivers - wet enough to be extremely wet yet just safe enough for it to still be ok to race?

was it 1996 and the Ligier Win or was there one earlier than that?

  1. in 1992 i recall it was a wet day but the race still went on

  2. I would say 1997.

They started on intermediates (except the Williams drivers who had a terrible race), but by half distance they all switched to full wets.

Schumacher was over 6 seconds clear after the first lap, and won by a huge margin, despite slowing down on the last lap so that he didn't have to do another one (due to the 2 hour time-limit).

  3. 1994

  4. 1997

  5. 1984 was bad, stopped early and half points were given.

    1. Alain Prost

    2. Ayrton Senna

    3. Stefan Bellof.

If the race finished in its entirety and Prost finished 2nd, it would of been enough points for Prost to take the world championship by seasons end.......

  6. 1997 was VERY wet. I spent the race in the pitlane and as I walked up and down the water oozed out of my fireproof boots, much to the amusement of the sheltering Ferrari boys. Still got the boots, they are just about dry now. 1984 was an awesome race. Most people remember it for Senna catching Prost at 10 secs a lap, but forget that Bellof was catching Senna at 11 secs a lap! Senna would live another ten years, win many races, champioships and fans. Stefan Bellof was not so lucky.

  7. 1997 (wet)

    1996 (wet/dry)

1984 (this was probably the worst... comparison:  probably as bad as the monsoon that hit the Nurburgring last year... but without gravel traps etc.)

  8. rosbif... where are you?!
