When was the last time 4 drivers led the Championship in the same year?

So far, Hamilton, Raikkonen, Kubica and Massa have led? Has this ever happened before?

I don't remember but I'm glad Lewis Hamilton is in the top three.

The last time was in 1987: Prost, Mansell, Senna and Piquet.

Prost led after the first race in Brazil; Mansell led after the second race in San Marino; Prost led again after Belgium and Monaco; Senna led from Detroit to Britain; Piquet then led the rest of the season.

The same four drivers also each led in 1986.

In 1982, Prost, Watson, Pironi and Rosberg all led the championship.

1979: Laffite, Villeneuve, Depailler, Scheckter.

1956: Behra, Moss, Collins, Fangio.

That's it. It's a very rare occurance, well spotted. There have been LOTS of years with 3 drivers leading the championship, quite a few with just two, and a handful with one driver leading from start to finish.
