  1. David Lloyd George was the last of 3 successive Liberal PM's back in 1916 until 1922. Liberal, but not Liberal Democrat although in 1988 the Liberals and Social Democrats merged to create what came to be called the Liberal Democrats.


  2. non since 1920s they were called the liberal party back but in 1987 they joined with social democratic party and formed a party jointly, then they became the democratic party, the following year paddy ashdown renamed them the liberal democrats, they are centre left party with a mix of centre right wing

  6. Before WWII, labour didn't exist. Labour as it stands is an amalgamation of the liberal party and other more left-wing parties, but Tony Blair moved it much further to the right with 'New' labour.

    The Lib dems came later. So although there has never been a Lib Dem PM (because they don't have enough MPs) there were Liberal Pm's before WWII, notably Winston Churchill, who changed from Conservatives to the Liberals earlier on in his career.

  9. Never, but the Liberals singular used to be the natural party of opposition to the Tories and had the famous Lloyd George as one of their PM's, way back in the 1920's ?!
