  1. man, that was like 97 or 98, at least where Im at,

    it was 95.9 a gallon,

would that be nice now.  d**n.

  2. I had a 79 trans am when gas was $.89 in VA in 2000. if I had that car right now I'd be broke!

  3. 1998-1999  --  In Sterling, VA I recall paying $.89/gal for gas.

  4. In late 1998 i was paying no more than 85 cents a gallon (and i thought 85 cents was too expensive).  Now I'd love to see $2.85 let alone $.85 a gallon.  Oh, and for a brief period in late 2001 gas was under a dollar.

  5. 75 cents a gallon in 1979.

  6. About 2001

  7. 2000

  8. Around 2000 and 2001, and that was during a time when people would get out raged at $1.05

  9. 1980's

  10. 4 Months.. December of 1998

    January 1999

    February 1999

    March 1999

For 6 years prior, the average never busted a buck and never since has it. That is the last time that the Nat'l Average was under a buck.

  11. In Florida in 1989 gas was .89 $/gal.

  12. Alright since no one has actually thought about the effects of inflation we need to control for price gains. I would rather pay $2 per gallon in 2003 then $1 in 1980. If you go www.bls.gov they have data for gas prices and inflation. Better yet a google/yahoo search can lead you to the following webpage:

The chart is through April and currently today gas prices are now higher in real terms then 1980.
