  1. WWII. The Yanks took over the place.

  2. These days most of the opposite combatants in the Middle East seem to wear civilian clothes so that they can fade away as soon as the army appears. I'm wondering if the large number of illegals here can be similarly classified as invaders

  6. depends what you mean by successful

the last  landing was by the dutch on the isle of sheppy they stayed a couple of days claimed it as dutch soil got bored and sailed home again with a few head of sheep. This was in June 1667 they did however in the process inflict the heaviest defeat known to that date on the royal navy.

if you mean an invasion where the ruler was overthrown and the invader's leader put in charge then of course this was the welsh who overthrew richard 3 and placed henry tudor on the throne of england

  8. was it William the 3rd the prince of orange? if it is he was given succession of heir because his dad in law was catholic and not allowed to ascend to the throne, therefore by his marriage to Anne England needed a Protestant king so a unknown and reviled prince form Holland was proclaimed defender of the protestant faith.  I also think its the first time a regent became king over in Britain without direct succession.
