Not just a kind word, but an actual deed like giving them money for food or toting their groceries, or helping push their car because it stalled or broke-down.

  1. I try and do good deeds when I can, but I have a social phobia so sometimes that stops me. But if I see a person struggling with a door or they need a seat on a train Ill give it to them.

  2. I was at Target last week and there was a lady on one of those motorized shopping carts looking at laundry detergent on the top shelf and I asked her if I could reach something for her...she declined, but at least I asked.

I try to open doors for moms with strollers all the time because I know how cumbersome a stroller can be going through a door...

um...2 months ago a group of us went camping and I overheard the people in the adjacent site telling their son that they couldn't set something up because they forgot the duct tape.  I just handed them our tape.

I also let people use my 'Safeway' (grocery store) card if I notice that they forgot theirs or say they don't have one, or provide the additional change if they are short.

  3. I used to be kind to others. As a transsexual woman, I rarely receive it in return.

Although I am an Atheist, I find the Third Satanic Sin to be sad, yet very effective in dealing with people. It reads as follows:

    3. Solipsism—Can be very dangerous for Satanists. Projecting your reactions, responses and sensibilities onto someone who is probably far less attuned than you are. It is the mistake of expecting people to give you the same consideration, courtesy and respect that you naturally give them. They won’t. Instead, Satanists must strive to apply the dictum of “Do unto others as they do unto you.” It’s work for most of us and requires constant vigilance lest you slip into a comfortable illusion of everyone being like you. As has been said, certain utopias would be ideal in a nation of philosophers, but unfortunately (or perhaps fortunately, from a Machiavellian standpoint) we are far from that point.

Another sad but helpful philosophy is the Fourth Satanic Statement. It reads as follows:

    4. Satan represents kindness to those who deserve it instead of love wasted on ingrates!

No one here has a right to criticize me for sympathizing with some of their beliefs. They are a more accepting organization of people like me than most.

  4. On Monday when I helped a family at Walmart who couldn't understand English that well and were trying to shop for school supplies for their little girl. I spent more than half an hour searching for things on the girl's school list, and it felt really nice to do a good deed for some strangers.

  5. I try to show kindness to people everyday. Last winter I saw a man with a cane slip on the ice and fall as we were driving by. We (my son and I) immediately stopped and went back to help him. This is a small town and he recognized me in the store recently and thanked me. He told me he had just had major back surgery 2 weeks prior to that. Helping him was simply the right thing to do as are all random acts of kindness. To bad they are random, the world might be a little better place.
