  1. The roller coaster is a popular amusement ride developed for amusement parks and modern theme parks. LaMarcus Adna Thompson patented the first roller coaster on January 20, 1885. In essence a specialized railroad system, a roller coaster consists of a track that rises in designed patterns, sometimes with one or more inversions (such as vertical loops) that turn the rider briefly upside down

  2. i don't know who invented it but i know it was inspired by the farris whell.

  3. The purpose for which it was invented was so people can have fun. As the story goes, people were bored, and during the winter they would go on these ice hills. In the winter, I used to go big hills that have snow on them. People did this for fun. This was quite dangerous though because this was ice, and it wasn't snow. Ice is slippery.

The whole point was that people really liked this idea, and what were they going to do in the summer? So, they put rollers on the ride, and it went down in the summer on these hills. Later on, they started using these roller rides by putting them a track for the mines. They would have to load up coal, and go up the mountain. The horses didn't want to go down the hill, but they would go up it. You need someway for the coal to be moved, and it had to be easy. So, they put the coal cars on a track, and sent it down the hill.

Than, roller coasters just escalated. Obviously, people must like going down hills. It is exciting for them. So, obviously you have to think of a way to get people up hills. So, that would be the lift hills on coasters today. Towards the beginning, these were dangerous rides, and quite frankly people didn't care whether or not they lived especially later on during the depression. At first even, the coasters never had the wheels that go under the track. It would be really easy for a roller coaster to come off the track. They are called upstop wheels.

Than they came out with the chain on the lift. It can't rollback on the lifthill if and when it stops on it. That's why it makes that noise when you go up a chain lifthill. It will stay in place with the things on the bottom of the roller coaster. I forget what they are called.
