  1. The first horse-drawn lines were built in 1888 to 1891, but then the railroad was properly built in 1904, by the Petaluma and Santa Rosa Railway Company. All of it finally abandoned and closed in 1984.

See sources for some more info.

    Hope that helps!

  2. The Petaluma & Santa Rosa and the Northwestern Pacific are the two major lines in Sonoma county.   Most of the NWP lines are gone (though signs can still be seen), however the NWP mainline sttill exists and the tracks lay dormant.  They run up the 101 corridor.

The Western Railway Museum library has tons of info on both, I believe it'll be open on Saturday but call.  You can also RIDE our Petaluma & Santa Rosa #63 interurban!  Come early and mention to the well dressed conductors that you have an interest in that car, and they might just pull it out for you!

That particular car came to us as a "chicken coop".  It had been stripped of wheels and equipment, and was built into the side of a house.  We bought the car (had to tear down the house), found appropriate equipment, and turned it back into an operating streetcar!

  3. Looks like Petaluma & Santa Rosa Railroad, Inc. built the line in 1904.

    Woohoo for Wikipedia!
