  1. My daughters were all over 2 or just a little after.

  2. i work in a pre-school and i mostly find that 1-3 word sentances (i.e. where mummy?) start around 2 to 2 1/2, usually increasing to about 5 word sentances (i.e. i need a wee) around 3.  Of course kids are all different and there's nothing to worry about if they dont fit in to averages.

    p.s. katie- yeah sure!

  3. My daughter was around 1 1/2 years...she's 3 now and talks nonstop!

  4. My 6 yr old was 2 when she really started talking in sentences but my soon to be 3 yr old has a speech delay so she doesn't really use sentences yet. She is receiving speech therapy though.

  5. My kids were in the 1 1/2 - 2 range, if you count 2 or 3 words as a short sentence.  I think they were fairly typical.

But there's a huge range, of course, and some kids will be earlier and some kids will be later.

  6. My oldest was about 1 1/2,a daughter, and my sons were arount 18 mos. My 1 year old daughter babbles a lot, but yesterday said hi da da when he came home. It was really sweet. She's right on with my other  daughter  .

  7. at 18 months my son was saying "I'm going to get you!!!" and "What's that?"  And now he says "Help me, Mom!" when he is playing like he is stuck some place.

  8. I talked really early. When I was about a year I said my first sentence: "The birdies in the trees outside go tweet tweet." lol!

  9. My son is 23 months old and has a ton of individual words but the only sentence he says is "I've got it" when he chases after a ball.

  10. Dont rush it!!! Once they start...they dont stop. My almost 16 month girl says phrases. That may be different than a sentence because she doesnt have to select individual words. For instance, she says "i dont know" or rather "I not know"

  11. Short sentences are expected 2 and a half to 3 yrs old.  There is a wide variety of "normal" speech.  My 3 sons are all delayed, but I work with a speech therapist several times a week for the past 5 yrs and know what they are looking for.  They are looking for 2 word combinations to start beginning at 24 months, and at 24 months should have a vocabulary of 50 words

  12. My daughter was approx. 16 months when she began saying short sentences like "I want that'  "Whats this", etc....
