but sometimes when we are dreaming we are certain that we are awake?

How is it that we can be certain we are awake sometimes when we are dreaming, and yet we should not be certain. But there is a clear difference when we are awake and then we can be certain we are awake?

Thus ultimately how can we trust feelings of certainty?

  1. I recently had a dream where I was dreaming and in this sub-dream I thought I was awake, and felt like everything was so real. I was at the window next to my bed looking at a naked woman floating there.  Then I woke up from the sub-dream (but still dreaming), and was telling people how real it was.  How strange it is to just wake up from it.  Then I really woke up and was in real life.  Man, this made me feel weird! I could definitely tell the difference between all three which it weird but the sub-dream didn't seem so real anymore.

You really can't know.  But we sleep, wake, and sleep again and we are getting pretty sure of the difference.  What is the waking world but information given to you by your brain.  I understand your question of reality but I find it far fetched that everything is only in our head and has no corresponding world on the outside.

    confusing right. lol

  2. I always think I'm dreaming when something really good happens or hope I'm dreaming while something bad is happening. Sometimes when I'm dreaming I know I'm dreaming and try and wake up, which usually leads to another dream.

I know what you mean in trusting your certainty, in dreams we dont usually have very much logic so we aren't really thinking strait.                                                                                                                        there is no way that I know of to test dreams, except a good pinch :)

  3. wow that was deep... well, when we are asleep, it really isn't any different than when we are awake in our imagination, so it really doesn't know what sleep is, so it just keeps going. ya, idk wut im talking about.
