When we are young what was the apporiate age to?

stop believing in santa claus and also stop playing with dolls (for men I know it's called action figure).

Why did they lie about santa claus in the first place just to tell us the truth, and nobody not suppose to talk about the after effects. like why did they lie in the first place. isn't that saying adults lie, now that we older we have a choice to lie to our child/children about the same thing or we have a choice to tell them the truth.

I think growing up parents lied for a couple of reasons.  One, was probably because they grew up with it (tradition). Two, because back then it was a way to reward your child for being good by telling them if they're good then they'll get presents and three, believing in Santa as a kid is fun.  You may be angry as an adult, but it as fun to believe and imagine, that just maybe he was real.

I will take the Santa Claus question. I remember some years ago reading a copy of National Geographic. Letters to the Editor. It was from a very young girl. The question went something like this. With all the incredible and fascinating places that your magazine has gone to how is it that you have never gone to the North Pole to visit Santa Claus. Sure telling your kids that Santa Claus exists is a lie but I think that it is OK. Its really a fairy tale. It makes them feel good. I think that at about the age of five when they are heading off to school for the first time might be a good time to clue them in. If you don't do it then they will find out anyway from their friends and if they still believe in Santa they will probably feel embarrassed. Just let them know why it is that you are explaining this to them and explain to them that their friends may not understand this yet and that they should not embarrass them. As to dolls,action figures or soldiers kids learn on there own when it is time for them. Hey Good Luck what ever you decide to tell your kids. What I have said is not a fixed rule.  Bob
