people stare at you with a different look? For example if you wear t-shirt with your branch's logo and go into the bar and stuff, do people look at you differently?

  1. I will look at them and shake their hand. God bless our troops!

  2. It depends. Did they just get back from the desert or are they just parading around in their camis to show off.

Personally I love my country and anyone who is brave enough to serve it (regardless of what our leaders' own agendas are).

But I think a hand shake or pat on the back is something that should be voluntary, not solicited by parading around in you military duds.

I am a veteran myself and expect nobody to praise me or shake my hand. However, when people do, it is greatly appreciated and unexpected.

I have shaken hands of veterans and/or active service members and I have no problem with anyone that does.

If you do this, don't look at the person's expression whose hand you are shaking. Look at the expressions of all the bystanders. I'm sorry to report that you almost always get someone rolling thier eyeballs or giving you a smirk, like you are an idiot. It makes me want to gouge their eyes out and ask them what they have done for their country lately.

So ---NightOwl keep shaking those hands, but check out the people around you when you do. It is great when someone shows appreciation for service members. It is disgusting when someone gets c**p for showing appreciation though.

Check it out, see if I'm wrong.

  3. Well, 1. I dont wear my army c**p out in public. We arent actually allowed to wear our uniforms for moer than an hour when we get out of work. Wearing your uniform even to Wal-Mart isnt really allowed.

And 2. it's hard to go around here wearing army garb. Army soldiers tend to get attacked in my town. We are next to a college town and the two populations dont mix well. At in-processing they told us the bars and places we really shouldnt hang out at.

You would have to be a complete idiot to wear anything army into a bar. The haircut is enough to label you as army anyway.
