Question:

When were cars first available in colors?

I think I recall, as a small kid, that all cars were black. Maybe this is from looking at old photos, which were indeed in black and white. I was a kid between 1947 and 1957 basically.

  1. ford said that customers could have any color they wanted, as long as it was black.


  2. From the very beginning they were available in colors. Ford did not invent the automobile he just was the first to mass produce them and made all fords black. but you could buy Oldsmobile (in America) or Mercedes (if you were in Europe) and there are others these were custom made to your order and you could get them painted a lot of different colors.

    Ford started offering a few colors some time in the 30's i think

    once saw a 1934 model A that was a brick color
