When/what should I first feed my new betta fish?

I just got a brand new male betta fish. When should I first feed him? Also, I dropped in one pellet of food, and he seemed uninterested at first. Then, he took it in his mouth, and spit it back out. Should I be worried about this? Should I change his food immediatly?

DO NOT change the food and DO NOT be woried. when i first got my beta fish, i was told to feed him 1 pellet a day. i feed him that for a few weeks but then i decided to give him 2 and he ate them both so i gradually worked my way up to 5 a day. DO NOT GIVE THEM MORE THEN 5!

Btw: he is the most boring fish i have ever had and i would not recommend them to anyone. HE DOESNT MOVE! he just sits at the bottom of the tank!

If you just got your betta, it's probably just getting used to it's surroundings. Lots of bettas spit out it's food because most bettas are picky eaters. If the food is made for bettas, do not changes it's diet because bettas require more protein than other fish because they are carnivores (more specifically insectivores). If you want, you can change the brand, most bettas will readily eat Hikari Betta Bio-Gold, they are tiny little pellets, and they only need 4-8 pellets, depending on the size of your betta. Just fast your betta for a couple of days and he will be hungry and eat they pellets you offer him, if he's healthy. For treats (once or twice a week), they love bloodworms, brine shrimp, daphnia, baby crickets, fruit flys, blanched pea (for digestion), krill, mysis shrimp and baby guppies are what my bettas like.

DO NOT change the food. they will get used to it. Feed him once in the morning and once at night.

mine likes freeze dried blood worms(sounds gross) and brine shrimp its in frozen packages at petco or petsmart...you can change there food just do it alittle at a time
