I got my wisdom teeth out a week ago,and there are still stitches in my gums, one in which is now just hanging from my gum. I think I ripped it half way while eating, not sure.

Any help would be really great, thank you.

  1. Most dentists now use the dissolvable kind to save their patients a trip to the office.  I get these questions all the time since I'm a dental assistant.  They should be gone in a few days so don't worry.

  2. When I got my wisdom teeth out the stitches didn't dissolve. I had to go back a week later for them to take the stitches out

  3. well, two of my brothers had theres pulled and it took like two weeks maybe. they should just dissinegrate, but if you tore it.. i don't know.

  4. The dissolvable stitches vary in time that it will completely go away. I had 4 of my wisdom teeth out 4 weeks ago and in one area, the stitches went away in less than a week, 2 others in like a week, and the last one took about a week and a half before it dissolved. And most of the time, most of it will be gone by a week but still have the ends hanging there. Like you, the same thing happened with me. Just leave it alone and don't bother it. If you try to tug on it or anything, it will make the site bleed. It will fall out soon on its own.
