Question:

When will Atheists evolve?

such that they stop needing to ask Theists to prove their Faith in Scientific terms and for some bizarre reason feel that Theists somehow have the burden of proof ?

The need for proof / evidence is a scientifc process.

Faith can never be tested using Scientific means which average intellect Atheists understand.

Do Theists ask Atheists to prove their Atheism in Faith terms ? No of course not.

So why is it that some Atheists need to constrict the scope of answer to their own framework of proof/reason/evidence ? Its an oxymoron.

  1. We have already evolved beyond religion.  Maybe someday you'll join us...nah.  Never happen.  You and your soul are petrified.

  2. I evolve at level 36

    but seriously...

Theists many times will expect atheists to see subjective evidence as objective evidence. An atheist may ask for evidence, and a theist will say something like, "the evidence is all around you". This is very subjective as it is not evidence in everyone's eyes.

  3. Of course Faith cannot be tested scientifically; it is completely subjective, however having faith does not prove the existence of gods/deities, which is what Atheists ask for.

I am an Atheist and I wouldn't ask a Theist to prove his/her Faith as it is something that they believe in for hope, etc and it would be ignorant to question it; however the existence of the god/deity that this person has faith in I may question.

Like I said it is completely subjective.. one person, a Theist may believe in the existence of a god/deity and not need proof, where as someone like myself would want proof as I do not believe that there is a god.

It is sort of similar to someone claiming they had magical powers, assuming they actually believe it. A Theist, who believes in God would more than likely mock the person and ask for proof because being magical is not a social norm like believing in gods.

I hope this help to answer your question, and that you understand that each persons mindset is different. I will leave you with one final question: is this question not completely hypocritical? It could equally have been "When will Theists evolve?"...

  4. Atheists don't need to prove there is no God because believers have already done that.

The proof there isn't a God is that there is no evidence there is a God.

And a question about evolution when God believers have no logic or common sense.

When will believers in God evolve?

  5. Atheists evolve? We are the next evolution, we do not need to pray to something imaginary. We don't require someone else to blame for our own mistakes.

A simple test is prove to me there is a god? You cannot, end of argument! Your faith is not in question as we all know it is strong, but why? The bible is a mish mash from a collection of writings, the only books were included by humans as they seemed to fit their ideas at the time. So I cannot accept the bible as absolute truth either. Many good books were left out that would make the bible make so much more sense.

When you dig deeper into the whole religion thing it becomes so much like fantasy. I belong in the real world where I take responsibility for my own actions.

  6. Faith is what you use when you want to pretend you know something you don't, if you have proved something there's no need for faith.

But if you haven't proved something i.e. you're using faith, then you do need to prove it.

P.S. You don't need to prove atheism as it's not a theory it's a lack of believe in a theory.

P.S.S. "prove their Atheism in Faith terms" is an oxymoron; like I said before, you don't need faith if something is proved.

  7. Great question...the brainless cannot evolve a brain from nothing.

  8. I dunno. I guess we're just trying to thwart more 9/11's, Jim Jones types

    and Andrea Yates minded people.

  9. For me, I don't believe anyone is really asking that. Christians are always saying that we need to prove that a god doesn't exist. That is impossible and a waste of time. It is up to the claimants that one does to prove it.

As far as someones faith, I have no problem with anyone having their own faith. If it could be proved, it would no longer be faith. But, I do have a problem when they use it as a basis to force others to obey it.

  10. you claim with absolute conviction that an entity exists

by doing that you immediately place upon yourself the burden of proof

think of it as a cross to bear

    no proof = no credibility

    but you knew that already

    didnt you?

edit - lol what is there to explain?

before you say stuff like "god is creator" or "god forbids homosexuality", you need to prove that god exists.  if you cant prove god exists, you should refrain from saying "god is creator" or "god forbids homosexuality" - without proof for god the statements are nonsensical, just as "the invisible pink unicorn said dazzla must stay indoors on thursdays" is nonsensical

    dead simple

laws for organising society should be based on objective evidence, not the alleged inspired word of a wholly unproven supernatural entity

  11. You're a goose, and you don't know what you're talking about.

To believe something requires evidence. Otherwise you are delusional pure and simple. Faith is just delusion.

To not believe something simply requires lack of evidence for that something.

So, you need to front up with your deity to show he exists, or if you can't then you and the other x billion god-believers (of many different gods) need to just shut up.

  12. Well if you don't want to provide evidence that your beliefs are true then stop demanding that we follow them.  We're not going to take your word for it.

It's a case of put up or shut up.

Also I have a bridge you might be interested in buying.  You'll just have to take it's existance on faith though.

  13. I don't need to. I am the pinnacle of evolution.

  14. They are not asking for proof of faith, they are asking for evidence of a god

  15. You're quite right.

It's just a pity you felt the urge to preface it with a cheap shot about evolving.

And the derogatory comments about the intellect of atheists.

Jesus never once resorted to snide comments and cheap sarcasm.

Strange how so many of His self-professed devotees fail to live up to His standards, innit?

  16. When theists begin interfering in politics and the legal system, it stands to reason that atheists will ask for proof of the deity which commands that we behave in the ways theists try to dictate.  I would never attempt to outlaw any act that had no detrimental effect on me, another individual or society as a whole.  That would be ignorant and dangerous.  However, theists try to do this every day.  If you want us to live by your standards, the burden of proof is on you to show that those standards have a basis in fact. No one asks you to prove your faith.  I believe that you believe in a god.

  17. The trouble is that atheists can back up their view by applying scientific ideas, reason and logic whereas they can't disprove yours within the same framework.

In a lot of ways thou you do have the burden of proof as you are the ones that claim a creator exists.

I don't believe you can prove any existence of a god within faith terms either though because it's all about knowing/feeling something and taking it as fact without the possibility of proof, the leap of faith and if thats the case an atheists could say he's absolutely certain god doesnt exist,he feels it in his waters etc and his point becomes proven in your terms surely.

You could prove/claim anything and assert it's validity in terms of faith therefore it looses it's certainty and value as a framework to proove anything that is why they ask you to scientifically proove your god.

As for evolving,I thought religion didnt accept Darwinism and evolution still !!!!

  18. You claim it, you prove it.

Here, I shall argue in faith terms. "I believe the body of scientific evidence." However, if you ask why, we get down to brass tacks. "The body of scientific evidence says X, Y, and Z, which contradicts religious texts O, P, and Q." Suddenly my faith claim is a lot more reliable, because I've moved into facts. This is where religions tend to run into trouble.

That said, until you come claim it at me, I won't ask you to prove it. You're free to believe whatever.

  19. Dave needs a fire stone to evolve.

  20. If you recognize that faith requires belief BEYOND evidence, logic and reason, then you are correct that it cannot be tested for.

You are incorrect by implying that theists do NOT have the burden of proof.  By your own admission, you are making a claim beyond evidence, logic, and reason...how can you not have the burden of proof?

    Atheism is NOT faith based.

  21. Believe what you want but don't try and make others blindly follow you.  An atheist allegedly believes in nothing which is, in itself, illogical.  An agnostic believes he/she can never know because our understanding has eons to go before it can know, if ever.  This is the most logical belief.  Think of the goldfish.  If asked if there was a God it would say there must be because someone or some thing changes the water.  That crudely describes our level of 'knowing'.

  22. Dazzla, good points!  Satan keeps us from Christ by many cunning devices. Whatever works. We've all been there. And it takes Jesus to open our spiritual eyes.

That's why atheists are unable to see that they don't apply the same rules to atheism as they do to Christianity. They require no evidence, no proof, no witnesses to the beginning of life on earth, no rocket ships to every star in the heavens, no investigations into possible parallel universes, and no scientist to have conducted an experiment to look for God, in order for them to claim categorically there is no God; He's not out there.

And the sad thing is that because they can't question atheism in the same way that they do Christianity, they are unable to see the fundamental flaw of atheism.

If they were to sit down with pens and papers and list one by one the "proofs" atheism requires for the existence of God, they might be surprised to find there are none. There are no proofs that atheism would ever allow them to accept.

For instance, if an atheist saw God, would that prove God exists?  Or if he heard God's audible voice?  Or what about if other atheists saw or heard God too?

Well, no, it wouldn't prove God existed to the atheist, because obviously that would have been visual, auditory, or mass hallucination, according to atheism.

And the same principle applies to any proof they might be able to list on that paper. None would be acceptable to atheism. Not a single one.

And why?  Because of that fundamental flaw in the very basis of atheism. The rule which cannot be broken, no matter what is seen, heard, detected with the senses or ever "proven" and announced on the six o'clock news.

This rule: There is no God.

It's already been decided for them.

Ye shall seek me and find me when ye shall search for me with all your heart.

The atheist is unable to seek and unable to find God simply because his atheism does not allow him to seek for something it dictates does not exist; neither will it allow him to find something it demands cannot exist.

  23. Science is fact based and faith is an illogical belief in something that cannot be proven.

  24. unfortunately some never do

  25. The burden of proof is on you.  We do not claim to have all the answers - you do.
