Question:

When will I be able to do the Splits in all directions (right leg,left leg,sideways)

I took ballet classes for a year but I am not doing them anymore, I am really close for my left and right leg but I need to go WAY further for the splats (sideways). Also what are the stretches i should do before doing the splits ?

  1. well, you need to stretch out your hips! for me the bast way to do them is to fold one of my legs like i am going to sit indian style, then, put my other leg on top of the first with the knees right on top of one another. then, keeping my knee in place, try to straighten the top teg. once it has gone as far as it can go, lean over your knees with your torso. hold it for as long as you can, and then switch legs, repeating everthing.

    this kind of hurts, but it really stratches them out! and they have helped me! the only other advise i have for you is to work on your flexability and do the basic stradle stretches. to the right, to the left, then to the middle. but remember, to the middle, going all the way down does not nessisarily means that it is stretching you more. go slowly down until you can feel the most stretch! good luck! i know that you will do astonishingly well!


  2. you could do lunges and try to sit in the butterfly position and try to push your knees down and instead of trying to put your head on your toes flatten your back and try to put your chest against the floor. and sit in a straddle (not the middle splits but like a toe touch except your sitting on the ground) and try to put your chest against the floor and point your toes but make sure you keep your hips roll out so your knees are facing the ceiling and the only part of your foot that is touching the ground is your heel. and then just stay in your splits for a couple of minuets

  4. Make sure that your hips are squared off. And If you can't go all the way down hold it there. Take deep breaths and every time you exhale you should go down even lower.

  5. just hold them there (however far you are and just a little  further) for like a minute each a little throughout the day. it will come if you work at it. good luck!!!
