My son is almost 2 and a half and he acts like he's ready to go potty like a big boy but when I take him in and put him on the toilet he screams and wants down. Any ideas??

  1. Toilet Training should be a fun and exciting experience for both you and your child. Remember, your child should feel in control of the process, not you. Take a slow, casual, matter-of-fact approach, and make it fun!

Always encourage and praise your child.

Never pressure or punish your child for unsuccessful attempts at using the potty.

Start by reading potty training books to your child Elmo and others have books out about how much fun it is to use a potty. Once your child is ready for potty training; you can go to the store and purchase training pants - if your child keeps wearing nappies - which he has been used to just going in then he will continue to do it.

Let your child pick out his/her favorite training pants (Rugrats,Batman,Wiggles etc.). Cotton training pants will let your child feel the wetness and will train faster.

Put the potty in a room where your child plays most often. The kitchen is a good place, so you can supervise. It will also encourage your child to use it more often if it is in plain view. Let your child play with it so he/she will get accustomed to it. Then show your child how it works even if you have to use it yourself.

You can also put Potty Charts on the refrigerator. Explain to your child that each time he successfully uses the potty, he will get a sticker for his chart (use praise too, of course). This will be an incentive to get your child to start using the potty.

I also heard a great suggestion on here to put fruit loops in the potty and tell your child to try and sink them with their wee!  I thought that was great.

Anyway - I hope that helps and good luck :)

  2. my daughter would not let us train her or tell us when she had to go so we put her in a preschool three days a week that potty trained when she was two  and within three weeks she learned because she saw the other kids going !~! she is now three and tells us when she has to go !~!

  3. well tell him if he stays on the potty for a lil bit i  will give you a treat are you using a big potty or a potty seat ,maybe that will work

  4. my kiddo is about the same age. She didn't really dig sitting on the big potty at first so I went and got her one of the potty training ones. When my husband and I are home we let her run around naked and practice taking her into the bathroom every 30 minutes or so and sitting on the training toilet. Especially after a meal or a sippy cup. She is on the road to being potty trained now and will tell us when she needs to go. Also when she first wakes up in the morning we put her on the pot. Also buy "big kid" underwear and hyping it up has helped. Sitting in p**p or pee in those isn't comfortable.
