  1. Ginny is partially right. It might be a while before Nha Trang receives international flights, but that has nothing to do with the lack of things to do in Nha Trang.

Technically, the closest airport to Nha Trang is Cam Ranh International, which is a converted airforce base that sits between Nha Trang and Cam Ranh Bay. In other words, Nha Trang already has an International airport. However, only domestic airlines (Vietnam Airlines and Pacific Airlines) have flights through Cam Ranh at this time. There has been talk for years about direct flights to Nha Trang from several airports in Asia. Connecting flights from other countries will open as soon such flights are available.

Nha Tran's airport and ground transportation system will need significant upgrades before that happens. I arrived at Nha Tran airport on the back seat of a motorbike, because there was no other means of transportation from the main highway. Stuff like that has to be changed before you start seeing 747s land at Nha Tran International.

  2. Probably not for a long time. There isn't enough to do there.

Edit - MojaveDan - We spent a week there twiddling our thumbs, there really is not alot there for overseas tourists to do. They need to clean the beaches and make it more amenable for tourists as other places in Vietnam have successfully managed before it becomes international.

  3. It's a large shed.  Seriously.  And it's a good 45-50 mins out of Nha Trang, so make sure you leave your hotel with plenty of time if you are flying out of there.  But you can fly there really easily from Ho Chi Minh which has all the international connections you need...

  4. one international airport is good enough....
