Question:

When will a new model of the Canon Rebel EOS line come out?

I was going to buy an XTI but decided to purchase the XSI. And I know once a newer model gets released (despite the XS) the price of the XSI will drop. Any news on a new model for next year?

  1. People that know have signed NDAs and everyone else can just guess.

    Based on previous models:

    Digital Rebel: August 2003

    Digital Rebel XT: February 2005

    Digital Rebel XTi: August 2006

    Digital Rebel XSi: January 2008

I would say the replacement for the XSi will probably be announced in August 2009.  (The XS isn't the replacement, but a new class of cameras in the Digital EOS line.) You can see these cameras have about an 18 month product cycle, so you can always play the waiting game (the replacement is always rights around the bend and prices on the current model will almost always go down) or you can get the camera that is available now and start taking photos.

Since you were going to buy the XTi, you might want to get that over the XSi.  You can use the money you save to get a nicer lens.  Camera bodies come and go, but the lenses last much longer.
