Question:

When will an Australian say "Well done, Great Britain! Congrats on your team's success in the Olympics."?

I hear that GB is good at the 'sitting down' sports. Well, GB beats Oz in the overall medal tally in athletics - a standing up sport.

Of course, Oz is appropriately good at the getting wet sports.

Why is it that Australians seem never to have a sense of humour (especially not a self-deprecating wit) and why is it that Australians still have a national chip on the shoulder about their convict background?

  1. hehe!  Thanks for giving me a laugh.  ...chip on our shoulder...convict background...

Yeh, well done GB on your medal tally!

    Love

    Australia

  2. Well done, Great Britain! Congrats on your team's success in the Olympics.

    ...

In all seriousness, the majority of us Aussies couldn't give a c**p. We just hate seeing GBR brag when they actually win something for once =P

  3. Will you take a well done from a Kiwi?

As a cycling nut, I would love to give Hoy citizenship here anytime he wants to emigrate (and I PROMISE he can visit the Old country in... oh, lets call it 4 years time:)) ).

Congrats GB on a GREAT Olympics and a phenomonal velodrome performance.... If you think they cycling team need any help to get the very few medals they didn't get this time I'd be happy to offer a few tips! ahahahaha

Good Luck with the rest of the games and Good Luck for 2012

  4. We will say congrats on your success when we say congrats to New Zealand (oh and the US)

  5. Thats quite a generalisation there.   I think any and all countries that compete at the games (especially, of course, those that win medals or better their previous efforts) deserve congratulations.  I, for one, have no chip on my shoulder about other countries doing better than Australia.  Good on them for being the top of their game!

I think you're confusing average Aussies with Australian media.  Not very fair considering the shameful state of our media.

  6. Australians do have a sense of humour, excuse me for a moment please *I DO NOT HAVE ONE MISSPELLING,SO SHUT UP*sorry about that, now, where was I,oh yes, they do have a sense of humour, they are always laughing at themselves, with just cause.I jest,I just think that there is a friendly rivalry there and I am sure that they wish us well,as we do them on their meager medal tally.

  7. well i am an australian without a chip and i dont know why and i didnt realize that most of us think that way and i think well done to anyone even competes

  8. Yeah they hate it just like Yankees...bad losing little cry babies.

  9. Well we do have a Sense of humour, it's just you don't see it.

Gb does beat us in everything, It's because they have a larger majority of Population, as a Small country like us and we made it into the top 4 or 5 countries that's pretty impressive don't you think?

And all countries have a bad past following them not just us, even Beijing have one right now (tibet) so don't worry about that

  10. Well done on coming first more than us GB

By the way, when's the last time GB congratulatued us on our past winnings??

  11. I have never seen a more bitter group than the Australians on Yahoo Answers. They need to spend some time off of their island and see something beyond Oz.

  12. Well done an english man told me that England win once every 50 years so it a big reason to have a party.

  13. Well done, Great Britain! Congrats on your team's success in the Olympics

Also, as "Willow" said when is the last time GB congratulated Australia on their past winnings - or I guess that would mean handing out congratulatory messages pretty often.

GB does have a much greater population, so Get a Grip - you should be "beating" Australia all the time ! Also isn't Great Britain made up of a few countries ?

  14. Well done, Great Britain. Congrats on your team's success in the Olympics.

  15. I don't think it's a chip, it's more like the competitiveness between the 2 countries, happens in every sport we play against each other - such as the  Ashes and rugby. I see it as plain ribbing same goes between Aust and NZ, and they don't take it personally.

  16. several of us already have!!

    myself included....
