  1. Since basic cable doesn't need a box, there would have to be a standard protocol to send program guide info along with the TV signals, but there isn't one. The only way it would happen is either if a protocol gets established, or the feature gets put into your cable company's cable box and you use that.

    Actually another way this could happen is if you get a system that runs its own interactive guide, like a Tivo box that looks up information from the internet
