  1. Ps.

    Bills figures are interesting. BUT...

He didn't tell you how much HIGHER your return would be if you missed the  WORST 10, 20, or 30 days in those time periods.

  2. When the bulls show up.

  3. Hi, Josh,

The technical answer is, "When the last bull throws in the towel." Then there's nobody left to sell, so it has to go up.

Market is currently just a wee bit higher than its 1999 high. If that's not a bear, it's a long-term sideways market that's lasted long enough to make people wonder when the 10% historical average is going to kick in again.

Throw in high energy prices, high food prices, a low U.S. dollar, and I'm reminded of the stagnant 70s. We may even elect as president a man who sounds uncomfortably like Jimmy Carter.

Throw in baby boomer retirements, and all I can say is, I don't see how anybody hopes to make money from stock market price increases any time soon.

    best, Rick

  4. New market rallies tend to begin after you see a day when the market trades much lower, but finishes the day with a gain, or at least at its highs for the day...and then is followed by a day within about 3 to 7 days where the market is up significantly, usually about 2%.  This is a follow through day.  This may only lead to a short term rally, but new bull markets will not start without such a scenario.

When such a scenario develops, consider starting to buy, but do not plunge right in and get yourself 100% invested.

Always keep an eye out for unusual price action to give you a clue toward future market direction.

  6. Who told you that this is a bear market? All kinds of people are making money in the market. If anything, it is a bull market and it will continue.

  7. When the feds stop lowering interest rates.

  8. The economic landscape in the US, as well as the rest of the world, is pretty bad now.

Most of it due to the high price of oil, which is crimping all manner of business activity.  Another significant factor is the subprime collapse, which affects folks from Seattle to London to Beijing ( and everywhere in between )

With all this mess, and probably more to come,  I don't see where one can make money at all, unless one is short selected stocks.   Best to put all your money into money market funds, or bank CDs - and with those, you'll lose buying power like crazy as inflation rages.

    It's a no win situation , unfortunately.
