Rio de Janeiro has bid for the right to host the 2016 Summer Olympics. It is one of four cities in the running, the others being Tokyo, Chicago and Madrid.

The IOC will announce the winner on 2 October, 2009

Rio de Janeiro has a STRONG bid to host in 2016, though admittedly, it's still too soon to know for sure.  They certainly have the space to hold the Summer Olympics, though I'd imagine the police would have ulcers trying to keep the tourism crime at bay during the events.

If you've ever seen Tropa de Elite, imagine that dilemma times like a thousand.  Still, I'd love for Rio to host the Olympics.  I think it would do wonders for Brazil.    <")))><
