Throughout Britain, healthcare agencies are putting in place expensive plans for "heatwaves," which they say threaten the lives of thousands of people this summer. Environmental agencies are warning of "drought."
During a couple of days of mild sun 3 months ago, Britain was full of moaning people who wanted rain. They got it. It has rained, at times for 9 or 10 hours a day, throughout August, often torrentially, leaving 2 cities waterlogged and thousands homeless. As a runner, I can hardly train, sustaining 2 injuries slipping on the sodden ground. My laundry bill is rising as each time I go out more clothes are drenched beyond use. My mother grows and sells plants for a living, those which need a lot of water are thriving (giving the lie to the "shortage" brigade) while those that don't have rotted beyond repair.
Yet still people are complaining if we have so much as one day of sun - usually the same people who can afford to go jetting off to Spain or Greece. When will they be satisfied?
