How long we still need to wait for the time that everyone can afford a green car? Why can't government just subsidies each green car purchased as a support for evironmental preservation act?

  1. In the US, the WILL of the people is the reason why this country exists.  If there is one thing we Americans do well is complain about what is not fair to us as individuals.

Sometimes I wish the govt could just mandate things to make everything better like creating a National Solar/Tide/Wind power grid connected by superconductors.  But to do this on the governments orders, we waste a tremendous amount of money for the sake of quick development.  The technology is then patented by a few companies, making them incredibly rich in the US but does not protect them from international idea thieves- like Korea, China, Russia, Taiwan, Iran, etc.

We as citizens pay for the development through our taxes and National Debt.  The scenario of debt stimulated technology is best illustrated by our Military spending.  We develop cutting edge technology-like nuclear weapons, and someone steals the ideas.  Our space program was all military technology development (missile tech) disguised as a peaceful pursuit to put a man on the moon and explore Nature.  If we truely wanted to explore space, we  put more money into it.  But as the US pays for the information, who bennefits?

The best thing to do is let the natural law of economics dictate what any future consumer technology unfolds.

But lets get to a Very important subject of Greenness.  The metal hydride batteries in the hybrid vehicles have toxic chemicals.  If we make the cars lighter, how much protection to we sacrifice?  I have a motor cycle. I get great gas milage but also have very little protection from rain and road debris.  I also pollute more Nitrous than any car with twice my engine displacement.  My tires only last 5K miles, or wear (last) less than half the milage of a car.

I think the best thing way to make affordable Hybrid vehicles for Americans, the GVT needs to do a few things.

    1.  Tax the h**l out of Gasoline and petro Diesel.

    2.  Heavier fines for accidents and make CAFE standards higher.

    3.  This will force lighter vehicles.

    4.  Lighter vehicles allow smaller engines.

    5.  Smaller engines burn less fuel.

But lets not forget why gas prices have skyrocketed.  The law of supply and demand says that limited supply and high demand means very high prices.  When China started driving cars instead of riding bicycles, the damand for Petrol went up 25%.  Combine that with the devaluation of the US dollar, it is only natural that Gasoline prices have trippled in just 10 years.  But look on the bright side, compared to gas prices in 1979, the cost of fuel is just right.  Now take a look at fuel economy for any class of car and we burn far less and pullute 1/10.  I think we are already green.  And it will only get better.

  2. Because the tax payers would hunt the government officials down and flog them for spending money that way.
