You no NOT need passports to DRIVE to Mexico until after summer 2008.  See 1st  website and read top half of page for the NEW announcement made 4 days ago. Best site for planning to drive to P.V. is 2nd website below.  Click on "driving directions", fill in town, Ca, USA.  Then fill in Puerta Vallarta ,Mexico and click.  It will give you map, directions and hrs of driving time.  Remember you CANNOT drive at night in Mexico due to poor road conditions and animals on the road.  to be safe, add a few hrs. to what they tell you is the driving time.

it's going to take about 12 hours to get to mazatlan from the mexican/us border, and then another....5-8?  i figured this out once and now i can't remember the exact info.

you realize your going through major drug traffic right?  it's not all that safe.
