What kind of berries?.  Cannot answer the question without knowing, as different berries ripen at different times of year.

But basically it is ok to eat them when they are ripe.

That all depends on what berries you are talking about.   Strawberrys are ready  blueberries are ready blackberries are NOT ready. Raspberries are just about ready....

My raspberries are just ripening now but the strawberries are gone for this year.
