I think you're confusing journalists with priests.  The job of a journalist is to tell you what's happening, not to make you feel better about it.

Where did you get that idea?  The job of a journalist is to present the news, both large and small.  Some news is uplifting.  Some is tragic.  Figure out for yourself what your confidence level should be.
