When gas prices get so high and land prices get so high that the idiotic fantasyland you've built there comes crashing down into its reality of misery and economic unsustainability.

and we live in earthquake country

remember what happen with the Sylmar and Northridge earthquakes

we lost several freeways interchanges came crashing to the ground

and what would happen to the monorail then if there was an earthquake? (of course it would come crashing down)

nope its a lot safer to be in the subway during a quake

Probably never unless it's for show. Subways, trains, and of course the SoCal favorite, highways, are more practical, cheaper,  and can carry more people.
