My son consistently wakes up between 5:30 and 6:30 every day. It doesn't matter if we keep him up a little bit longer or he doesn't get an afternoon nap. It never fails, he is up SO early EVERY day.

When did your toddler start sleeping longer in the morning?

Here is his normal schedule

Wakes 5:30-6:30

Morn Nap 8:30ish till roughly 11:00

Afternoon Nap 2:00 till roughly 4:00

Bed time around 7:30

  1. im having this exact same problem and ive tried everything with my 10 mnth old, altho my son only naps for about 1/2 hour every day and still wakes up ready to play that early! i'll be checking back to see what others advice is...

  2. He is sleeping way too much during the day.  Feed him lunch around 11:00, then nap after that, but for only around 2 hours.  Then have a snack time since he had lunch so early.  That is how I have been doing my daughter since she was about 10 months old, it works greeat.  I do have to give the daycare credit for that though, that is how they do during the week, so I keep the same schedule at home on the weekends.  He will probably still wake up pretty early though, some babies are just early risers, and will be for a while.

  3. First you have to only give him an afternoon nap. My children go to daycare so they are ready to wake up at 6:00 every morning even on weekends. make the afternoon nap at 12:30 just for 2 hours and see how that works.

  4. Why would you want a toddler to sleep that much anyway? That isn't a very healthy goal, seven-nine is supposed to be a healthy sleeping time, you're wanting your child to sleep almost half a day! They should be painting and playing, running about outside in the sun not sleeping.

  5. don't give him a morning nap..just give him one nap aday..and give it too him early, like feed him lunch about 11 30ish and down by 12 15ish or so.. my son was like that before daycare..but they only give one nap..try it.. and see if it works.

  6. omit the am nap- if he has a hard time, make it shorter gradually until it goes away.  acutally it sounds like he is a pretty good sleeper- some kids are just early risers and will be for a long time. it is exhausting- i know my son, whom is 7 now, use to get up at 6am no matter what time he went to bed until he started kindergarten.... sometimes i use to send him back to bed just to lie there for a bit longer (of coarse when he got older around 4) good luck!

  7. Babies and toddlers are usually up with the sun, no matter what time you put them to bed. 10 hours is a good stretch of night sleep, so there probably isn't much you can do to make him sleep longer. Have you tried black-out curtains to keep the sun out?

(Don't make him skip his nap.  You'll just end up with a cranky toddler who STILL wakes at 6.)
