they are about 4 weeks old, are a little over a centimeter big, and have black spots on their tails, but when will they start showing colours?

both parents have a lot of orange (if the female wasn't already pregnant when i got her) will that mean the babies will be orange?

  1. I don't know about the traits that the baby guppies may take from the parents, but I had a baby guppy before, and it took about a few months for it to fully grow and show colour. If the parents had mostly orange, then the baby probably would too. Hope this helped!

  2. I have breed a lot of guppies and I would say within 2 weeks they might start to show a little colour.  Guppies are fully grown at 3 months.  If both parents are the same breed or are similar then you will most likely get fry that are orange.  Be patient, they will get colour soon.

    Hope I helped.

  3. 2 months but also feed tetramin tropical fish flakes when they get older for there best color.

  4. First, unless your female was a virgin and in my experience most of them are no better than street walker, then there is no telling who the father is, because they can actually store and use s***n for a certain number of births. You would have to look the number up. Not sure where I saw it. The only way to be certain that your male is the father is to seperate the sexes before they become sexually active and then only breed the virgin females to the males of your choice. You can inbreed to enhance a certain trait, though it also enhances negative traits as well as good. So you could end up with a pretty fish that runs into the glass all day giggling. Or you could take the virgin females and breed them in a seperate tank with an outside male of your choice. Guppies are allowed to breed willy nilly at the pet store, though, so there is a large chance that your fish might not come out with any orange even if they have two orange parents. If your looking for consistency then you need to go to an online fish dealer who keep the various color and tail styles in seperate tanks and you can order them from there. You'll then know that even if she's pregnant you'll get a fish of that shape and tail style. I urge that you purge the defective babies before you get attatched. If you don't purge them then they may breed and you may end up with more deformed babies at worst and it won't live long at best. No pet store will take them and if they do, they'll be a feeder fish. It's more humane to get rid of them at birth. If it makes you feel better you can turn them out in a lake or flush them down a toilet. There is a small chance they'll survive. Also, you won't have room for pretty healthy fish in you tank if it's full of ugly defective ones. Anyway, as to the babies color, it depends on the tank conditions. I had a roommate with several fish in his large aquarium and his guppy had babies. He didn't want them to get eaten so he put them in bowls with still water and changed it every few days. I had a small five gallon hex at the time, not feeling like setting up my  35 gal. for the 6 months I was going to be living there and my guppy had babies. I didn't have a seperate tank so said survival of the fittest. I didn't lose a single baby and although they were born two weeks after his, it only took them two or three weeks to get bigger than his. They were in a heated tank with a light on a timer, vegitation, and the filter stream. I crushed up some of the adult food and they ate at the tubifex worm cube and played in the filters "waterfall" all day. They grew alot stronger and bigger faster and started getting their color at around 2 months old. It does take them a while to fully get their color in. You have to think that in the wild they wouldn't want to get noticed, aka colors, until they were old enough to use them for breeding. Look up the time it takes them to become sexually mature and you'll have a good time line on the color. Good luck.

  5. They should start to show their colors when they are abot 10-12 weeks old.

  6. They should start to get their color at about 2 months.
