Question:

When will my cat's weak hind legs return to normal?

My cat was very very sick after moving a little over a week ago. She got some sort of infection and stopped eating for 3-4 days and her body went right for the muscle in her hind legs. She wouldn't move so I had to set her in the litter box or by the water bowl. Well after 3 rounds of shots and getting her on some serious antibiotics she's doing a lot better...She's accomplishing all her sustaining and eliminating tasks by herself (and i even got her to play a little today!)....I just want to know how long it will take for her legs to build up back to normal (if anyone has had any experience with that.)

  1. im glad that shes getting back to normal. that happend to my kitten but she had to be put to sleep. infection turned to cancer over 3 weeks (cattery apperently didnt notice when i was on holiday) i asked just asked my next door neighbour who is a vet and she said within the next 2 weeks. ur a loving cat owner xxxx

  2. About a year ago, some horrible person bashed my kitten and broke her hip and hind legs. I thought we'd have to put her down but she kept fighting and after 2 weeks in veterinary hospital she was ok to come home again. She lost all feeling in her right leg, and unfortunately that will never work again.

During the healing process her entire body shifted to rely on her left hind leg and she now uses it just as well as if she had feelings in both her legs.

What I'm trying to say is that cat's are extremely resilient and they dont take long to heal, even from the worst of circumstances. Cats have nine lives for a reason!

To get her legs back to normal will most probably take a couple of months at the most. All you need to do is make sure she's getting the love and attention she needs. In my experience, cats heal faster and get well quicker if they're well treated and looked after.

She'll gradually build up strength again, just make sure that you encourage it by playing with her. Get her to chase a piece of string - this will make her more active and she will start utilising her legs more. Even if it's just for 30 minutes to an hour a day, you'll be surprised at how much she improves.

So give it 1-2 months. If she still seems a little lethargic with her hind legs take her to the vet. A vet knows best and if you're ever unsure about a pet, go straight to them.

    I hope I helped :)
