My daughter is 3.5 (born in march). My sons bday is Sept 6th. I never went to school- but my kids will be going!

When do kids start school? At what age, is it different in every state? I am in Arizona but probably moving to California soon.

Whats the difference between Preschool and Kindergarten??

Thanks...

  1. most kids start pre-school around 3 or 4 depending on if they need it or not

Kindergarten is started at age 5 (or 4 depending on birthday)

most schools have an august cut off date but that is a little different per school district/city

you need to speak with your children's pediatrician to find a screening date for your children to be screened to see if they even qualify for preschool

the difference between pre-school and kindergarten is that preschool is getting kids ready to learn and used to a classroom setting and socializing with other children

kindergarten is school where you learn the basics (which number is which how to count and basic addition and the abc's and how to read small childrens books)

  2. Here's a checklist of criteria to assess whether your child is ready for school: http://www.kidspot.com.au/article+365+56...

  3. Wel my daughter started preschool right before she turned 4 she is born in sept. thatswas last year she is still 4 now but she is in Jr Kindergarten, I think only some states do this if your child is born after Aug 1 they will be put in Jr K but they are in classes mixed with regular Kindergarten and at the end of the year if they feel the child is up too speed they can go to first grade if not they will go to kindergarten and it won't look like a fail because they say that young some kids born later in the year may be behind a little just because of the age.

some parents start there kids with later birthdays when they are 5. but thats why my state has started this act 219 i think.

my son is 3 and starting preschool he is born in june and will be going to another year of preschool and when he is 5(he is born in june) he will be in kindergarten.

i think preschool is just so the kids get used to classes and prepare them for elementary. kindergarten is more teaching how to read and write and all when preschool is teaching how to play with others, follow directions, the basics.

  4. tHE DIFFERENCE IS PRE-SCHOOL HELPS THEM TO START KINDERGARTEN. PRE-SCHOOL SHOWS THEM A SMALL VIBE OF WHATS IT LIKE IN SCHOOL.. THEY START OFF SLOW TEACHING THEM NUMBERS,ABC . EVERYTHING WHAT KINDERGARTEN WOULD DO! ITS SAD THAT YOU NEVER WENT TO SCHOOL. JUST KNOW THERE IS SOMETHING CALLED CONTINUING EDUCATION. TRY AND GET YOUR G.E.D. GO TO ANY PUBLIC LIBRARIES AND THEY CAN HELP YOU ITS FREE. YOU KIDS WILL NEED YOUR EXPERIENCE AND HELP IN THE FUTURE SO DONT THINK YOU WONT KNOW ANYTHING THERE IS ALOT OF HELP OUT THERE AND THERE ARE PEOPLE IN THE AGE OF 80-90 GETTING THEIR DIPLOMAS SO. START BY HELPING YOUR SELF OUT AND YOUR KIDS..
