My little girl is preg, was preg, when we got her I was told. I purchased her 78 days ago! Still no babies. I also brought her home with another guinea whom I was told was also a female... I have checked her over and over and have had others look at her, she appears to be a female. I have read everyhting I can find on Guinea Pig gestation and know that they can be preg on average 72 days, give or take a few.. But..... 78 days? Isn't this pushing it? Her pelvis is openand has been open for over a week. she is still eating and drinking everything in sight. She is also laying around a lot, and moving from corner to corner and jsut plopping down for a quick 2 min nap! (eye's still open) Should I be alarmed or is everything OK. There are no other signs of complications other than she seems to be overdue by my calculations. Thank you in advance for your help.

  1. Are you sure she is pregnant? Has she seen a vet?

Gestation is generally 59-73 days, not longer than that.

  2. If she is showing no signs of labor, then just keep watching her. She may only have one piggy in her and sometimes those get to stay in a little longer than the average liter.

If she is pregnant, then it wont be long before a birth. Just keep an eye on her. Most piggies typically give birth when it is quiet, my rescues liked the evening, but I have heard some will give birth over night and the owner walks in to find baby piggies the next morning.

  3. I'm sure it won't be long before she pushes them out. lol.

If not, take her to a vet?
