Question:

When will radical environmentalists quit using ALL products that create GW instead of dictating to the poor?

why is it that radical environmentalists still drive cars, use air conditioning, heat their homes w/ gas or oil, do not ride their bicycles in bad weather but use transportation that burns fuel & emits "greenhouse gases," still eat an omnivore's diet, but do not want:

any DEVELOPING nation to get any products that would make their lives easier? why should poor people travel, a whole family at one time, holding their goods, on one motor scooter when they can drive a simple, cheap, car?

i'd love to hear from an environmentalist that has abandoned each and every comfort of modern living in honor of "the cause." tell me how you eliminated each and every thing in your life that leads to global warming?

if your life of comfort is good enough for you, why don't you shut up when poverty stricken people find ways to better their lives? you say you want ALL PEOPLE to live better. how?

  1. I have NO idea WHO exactly you are talking about..I don't know ANY group of people..even environmentalists that think the way you described above. You are generalizing, stereotyping, OR  I think you made this all up in your head unless you have personally interviewed every environmentalist in the world!  Who is denying the poor of anything...certainly not liberal, environmentalists.. they are usually pretty poor themselves.  You should be ranting and raving about the non-radical republicans who make it possible for the rich to get richer and the poor to get poorer.  Environmentalists are about curbing your impact on the environment..making many small changes in ones lifestyle or making a couple huge ones to help have less impact. No one in their right mind talks about becoming a hermit and living in a cave and not using ANY technology or resources..this is totally illogical..and like I said..not true at all..you are making up this whole "environmentalist" behavior up in your head.

  2. Wow,  whats with all the hating?? You need a new mantra and maybe to get your  chakras realigned, I bet your aura is all black and spikey, have you tried crystals?? LOL

If I had to eliminate each and everything in my life that leads to global warming you would not be typing that question, but it would be a good start....

    anyway, maybe this rings a bell ;

"Conventional people are roused to fury by departure from convention, largely because they regard such departure as a criticism of themselves."

  3. Many people are becoming vegan, trying to take better transportation, buying less, heating their homes less, living car-free, etc.

I could point to these people, and I could mention that I have tried to do my part for the "cause."  I've started taking public transportation to my school, and I am trying to reduce the amount of meat in my diet.  .

I'm not perfect, but since when did personal conduct become the standard at which ideas are judged?  Millions of people have offered moral advice while continuing to make moral errors.  Should we condemn morals then?  I think that hypocrisy should not change the strength of the argument.  Newt Gingrich committed adultery, yet I still agree with some of what he had to say about traditional moral values.

    Please add your comments.

  4. well, one reason is there there currently is no alternative to gas/oil/ ac and such.

and what is it with this these "radical terroristic, psychopath" accusations? Environmentalism was NEVER about stripping naked and living in a cave eating twigs and having no heat or food.

It was never about "destroying america" and spiralling all society into some dark ages run by a n**i regime.

All environmentalism is and was EVER about is trying to live in better harmony with the planet. It's about  trying to be clean-ER. it's about pushing to use hybrids and things rather than gas guzzlers. It's about recycling a little more instead of just burning everything or throwing it in the ocean

It's not possible to be 100% ZERO impact on earth. But there are lots of ways to lessen impact. 15% solar and 85% oil is STILL better than 100% oil

  5. Lots of stereotyping. You can not take whole sections of society and give them labels that determine the sort of actions they take. So forgetting the terminology all we can ask of ourselves is that we do our best. If environmental issues are a concern to you, then you make adjustments in your life to accommodate these. So you walk, cycle or use public transport more, change to sustainable energy sources, become vegetarian or vegan. There are plenty of people who do all of these things and do not condemn others for their behaviour.

We do what we feel able to do. This changes over our life, usually the more you learn about environmental issues the more you take action. It is not up to any of us to judge another.

Now the car issue is interesting.

Think critically about this. If you have a low income or disability has the car REALLY brought you comfort, ease or a better lifestyle. Think about it holistically. If you are elderly or disabled the advent of the car has meant that local shops and services have closed down. You have no choice but to use the supermarket which is built miles outside of the town. You have lost community and quality from regular daily interaction.

Roads and transportation has meant that areas that were self sustaining now have massive global corporations who own their land and sell them back the products they used to produce for sums of money they can not afford because the Global Corporations also employ them and pay sweatshop wages.

Why do people actually WANT those cars? They have been happily riding bikes and scooters. Global corporations WANT them to want those cars, because the want to sell them to them. There comes a point where building more roads does not solve the problems, look at congestion in major cities, like London, where riding a bicycle is much faster than driving a car.

Think about the expense of cars, running cars, the impact on the environment, technological advances, the ever increasing need to use more and more land for roads etc etc.

For example: Technological advances have not brought more leisure time to manual workers as promised. It has put the majority of the wealth in the hands of the few. People in developing countries no longer own their land, they must pay for all of their own goods, they have fewer job opportunities because technology means less people working. MORE people live in poverty now than ever before, throughout the world. See how much a director of a company earns in comparison to many others who earn LESS than $1 a day.

Look at deforestation of rainforests. It has been done for cattle ranching and to grow feed for livestock. The products are not going to feed the people in their country. They are imported here to supply the demand for cheap beefburgers. Whilst those in the developing country have no access to what was their own lands and can no longer buy locally produced foods. They are held ransom by the Global Corporations for employment (sweatshop work) and provision of essential goods such as food (loss of local competition means global corporations can charge what they want). They people starve while people in developed world die from obesity related illness.

People lived on those lands, they were self sustaining, they cared for them. Now large Global Corporations own the deforested land, people who lived on there are now land displaced. They have no longer have an interest in caring for THEIR environment. The land displaced have few options but to cut illegal roads into the remaining rainforest and illegally log.

We have serious threats to our long term survival like global warming, increased global poverty and the wealth belonging to a few who hold the power and control.

Yes some things done in the name of progress seem to have made people's lives easier. Does all this 'progress' seem beneficial in the light of the poverty, inequality and environmental problems people around the world are facing today?

  6. You won't find any true radical environmentalists here because they don't use computers.  All of the people who say they reduce their lifestyle to save the Earth really aren't out to save the world, they're just posers.  If they truly believed that our problems were caused by the Industrial revolution, then they would live as Native Americans.  They wouldn't accept any modern comforts like vaccinations and heat.  They would be hypocrites to wear glasses or write with a ball-point pen.  I have developed a test to see if the person reading this writing really is a true environmentalist.

Follow these simple instructions to complete the test.

    1. look straight ahead of you and read this sentence:

"I am reading this on a computer screen or a piece of paper."

What does this mean:  If this sentence is correct for you, then you are not out to save the world from global warming.  Thus you are not a true environmentalist.

True environmentalists are those who still live in a tribe such as in South America or Africa.  They hunt to eat and the only light they have at night is the moon, stars and fire.

  7. think of it this way.

people in this world have come so adapted to their lifestyles now that ,even the environmentolists, don't know how to change.sure, we all need to start helping out to save our world but we have been destroying our planet for a long time now that its a bad habit that the human race has.
