Question:

When will real estate expand into space?

For several million dollars, you can have your own island constructed in the Middle East. Seriously. LOL

We have yet to develop many lands on earth - and hopefully we won't develop every square inch of it.

I'm wondering if developers could manufacture a "second earth" in space - and how long before this could be a possibility? 100 years? 300 years?

Thanks all - just a fun, speculative question.

Take care.

  1. The Commies won the space real estate battle with their odiously collectivist "Common Heritage of Mankind" doctrine. So what needs to happen now is for other planets and the asteroids to be reprivatized. Otherwise there's no incentive for private investors to spend their money to acquire extraterrestrial real estate. Why not? Because, if someone invests in that way, he'll have to SHARE his investment with every single person who did not likewise invest, which reduces the return on investment by a factor of six billion. Obviously, then, space real estate isn't going to be profitable, and so there will be no private commercial interest in space, until the Marxist CHM treaty is overturned.

  2. Well... not for the foreseeable future....  Right now, the planets & moons beyond Earth are covered by the 1968 treaty on space:  No ownership allowed.

I guess if one were to *build* a planet, it might be different.... but, we're a little ways from that.

  3. why are you planing a hard rock cafe in space  good luck with that

  4. in 10 years

  5. Try 50 years. Tops.  It won't be a "second earth" but in space manufacturing facilities and land on the moon and near-eather asteroids for mining.

As things stand, however, it won't be the Unitd States doing this.  when the Shuttles retire in 3-4 years the United States will no longer have a manned spaceflight capability.  The "replacement" has now been pushed back to 2014 at the earliest--but there isn't enough funding.  NASA is currently negotiating with Japan to buy unmanned cargo rockets for supplying the ISS and will rely on the Russians for transporting astronauts.

Meanwhile, Russia, China, India, and Japan all have active programs to develop manned spaceflight systems of their own.  Unless something reverses the trend, the US will be no better than fifth in space activities in 5 years--and not be in the manned spaceflight business at all.

  6. real estate will expand to space when we find a practical and cheap way to get massive ammounts of materials and such into space....

and my best guess would put it at well over a thousand years to 'build' another earth... as this structure got bigger and bigger you WOULD have to deal with gravity just like we do here on earth... imagine the engineering problems of building something 8,000 miles in diamater when it's an amazing feat for us to build a building less then a mile high....

  7. yes i need to invest on planets , all real estate here on earth already owned by Donald Trump  : )
