Lord Rama is being worshipped since long in Tamilnadu.  Famous Madhuranthakam Rama temple was built by famous Chola king Madhurantaka Chola and Kumbakonam and TillaiviLagam are faomous for their Rama temples.  So many to number.  The place Lord Rama was lying on a bed of grass to call Varuna, the sea god for help to build the dam is known as Thirupullanai.
