When will the 2008 Canadian Seal Hunt begin and end?

I'm going to be suffering with the seals and would like to know when the hunt starts and ends.

It starts in March and goes until the quota is met.

As far as the seal slaughter itself is concerned, the Canadian government has not yet announced the kill quota for 2008. We will bring you this information when it becomes available.

Seal hunting has to start a short time after the pups are born, and before their coats change color, That places it in March.

With the collapse of cod populations, the main food of the seals, there may be a reprieve as instead of pups being slaughtered in the seal hunt, the mothers in many cases will be starving from want of fish.

Further north, above the Labrador, we find that seals are being spared death from polar bears because again, the seals are starving from lack of fish. It is wonderful to see the way starvation steps in to protect the seals from being killed.

Last year, I believe it started around the middle of March.  It is supposed to end around the middle of May, but often the Canadian government allow the quota of baby seals killed to exceed the limit stated and the hunt can go on into June.

actually donfletcheryh seals can only be hunted after the coats have changed colour when they are weaned from their mothers and more or less on their own.  White coat seals have not been hunted since 1987. With over five million off the coast of Newfoundland I wouldn't say they are all starving to death. The population is holding strong. there was a little drop but that was due to poor ice conditions.

It will take place from march till the quota is met or conditions do not allow safe hunting.

Edit: Not just anyone can go up to the ice. It's very dangerous and I wouldn't suggest it.
