  1. I think it will happen when they activate the LHC, the large hadron collider.

  2. Oh no, that's not what was predicted. By a coincidence, the end of the Mayan calendar matches with the date given by Dr. Richard C. Duncan for electrical power blackouts in Europe and North America, caused by the increasing scarcity of fossil fuels.

Basically, 2012 was predicted to be the year in which most parts of the presently "developed" world would, from then on and most of the time, no longer have mass produced electrical power.

The end of the whole human race might not occur for millions of years; that is, we might evolve into something else before we become extinct, though that evolution, being slowly incremental, probably won't be noticed on a personal level.

However, because of mankind's failure to invest the terrestrial supply of fossil fuel energy properly, with a mandate to find and exploit greater energy resources located elsewhere than Earth, the ceiling for the potential longevity for humanity, as well as for all other Earthly life and its progeny, has been reduced from possibly a trillion years to a maximum of 1.5 billion years. Think about that, and appreciate of what cosmic importance were the higher obligations of Man and his political leadership, and the magnitude of his failure to do the task allotted him by Nature.

I recommend a book, to aid in your contemplations. Read "The Lightning and the Sun," by Savitri Devi, especially the first three chapters.

The child of God and Nature, who was to have been named Destiny, was stillborn because hominids, entrusted with the role of midwife, chose to kill the baby with a poison called "politics."

The intellectually middle class of mankind are not so wise as to be able to distinguish what is virtue from what makes them feel virtuous. Those below them aren't even wise enough to distinguish between virtue and comfort.

  3. Well global warming would make crucial changes over the next 50 years or so

Also there is a theory of 'Planet X' which apparently will cross are solar system around 2012 and could easily destroy earth because appaerntly its 50 times bigger then earth

  4. There is no significant chance in 2012, but there's always the probability that one of these days may well be the end of the world.

Surest end: When the sun expands into a red giant. The heat will kill most (if not all) organisms on the Earth.

  5. Well, the human race as a whole is bound to end at some point. The three main theories (and I say theories because, let's face it, no one knows when we're truly going to "end") are as follows:

    1) December 21, 2012. They picked this date because on the Aztecan Calendar, this was the last day they predicted. The Aztecs were pretty pinpoint accurate on their astronomy. They predicted almost every solar eclipse and astrological event that they could explain. I guess some people think that the Aztecs also predicted the end of the world.

    2) Global Warming theory. The Global Warming theory is actually several disasters in one. You see, when the sea levels rise to the dangerous levels some scientists predict, not only will several million people die from drowning, but a few billion (possibly) will be forced inland. This will lead to a fight for space, food, water, etc. Also with the climate change, some areas of the world will experience drought, which  could cause a war over water. Water is one of fifty "flashpoints" that a war could be started over according to the UN. In anycase, the human race would eventually tear itself apart.

    3) The Sun. This theory is the one theory that scientists know will happen. Scientists say that in 4 and some odd billion years, the Sun will eventually die out. There are several stages to this event. The first is that, in its cooling, the Sun will grow larger, pushing some planets farther out and engulfing others. The Earth sits at a very crucial point where we could go either way. After this, the sun will either collapse and form a black hole, effectively ending life on Earth. The Sun could also erupt in a super-nova, again, effectively ending all life on Earth. Its a lose-win situation. The Sun continues its life cycle, we don't. But again, you and I will be long dead.

I guess whatever you believe in, whether it be religion or science or both, the one thing that you have to keep in mind, is that the human race could end at any time. So live it up and enjoy life. h**l, it could end tomorrow.

  6. Sooner than we expect. Because whatever we expect will prove how dumb the human race is. There is really no exact date, and please, for your sake, do not believe such world will end in 2012. That's preposterous. Nothing will happen, you watch.

  7. Hang around, find out, and be prepared to be ridiculed when it is shown not to occur at that date.

  8. no one knows for sure, but what we do know is the Day of Doom will happen on a Friday (any, any Friday), and that there are signs of it getting close, and as many signs have already happened, it is close. once all the signs have taken place, v r DOOMED!

    ~!@#$%^&*()_+

  9. To the guy with the 3 theories above, the sun will not "Supernova" or turn into a Black Hole.  It is too small and will go out in either a less cataclysmic nova or just burn away slowly, letting its gases seep into space, ending with the formation of a neutron star.

The 2012 theory is just retarded.  So one race decides to stop adding dates to their calender and that somehow means we go extinct then?  Its more convoluted then the Y2K theory.

Either way, global warming won't be a problem in around 20 to 30 years, with the world becoming for eco-aware and with the advent of popularity in alternative fuels.  Also, Nuclear fallout is unlikely as nations involved would know it is a Lose - lose situation for the world.  Just look at the Cold War, neither nation wanted to launch nukes because if they did the other country would launch as well and the whole world would die.

Also chances of our race actually being destroyed by the sun is small, because if we are able to survive 4 billion years, our technology will be insanely good.  So, the best chance of us dieing out would be the disappearance of needed resources of life, or overpopulation which would strain the food source.

But here is my theory, if Humans are able to survive another hundred years, I feel that our technology will allow us to continue to survive for many millenniums to come.

  10. that 2012 thing was just a futur prediction by the greatest people who ever lived on the earth(maya indians) thier extent of knowledge was great and they were even gud at giving sacifices.thier architecture was so accurate that at some point in the pyramid they created on the 21st of march, if u were present there,u cud see a snake cuming down from the sky and going in the ground.

  11. When mankind evolves beyond the current species, homo sapiens sapiens which is the current definition of a human being.  As long as we are not destroyed by ourselves or cosmological incident (such as a meteor or comet strike) beforehand.

Our evolution does not stop.  We will become something other than what we now are.  Maybe very long lived as well, or in fact having achieved practical immortality.  This will make star travel and colonization feasible.

In any event, in about a billion years, this planet will be too hot (from solar heat-up) to inhabit as we are now.  So we will be off this planet by then.  Or not.

  12. It won't happen at 2012, that's just another stupid Doomsday prophecy like the one's that came before it. Don't by into that junk.

If we don't nuke each other or global warming doesn't burn us, then I think we have a few hundred to a thousand years left.  I say this because it is my belief that we were created by evolution as a tool to help further it (like sexual reproduction).  Since evolution is so slow, it is my belief that it created us to help speed it up.  Therefore, it is our duty to create the next level of sentient self-replicating life.  Once we do this, our job is done.

  13.   250 to 350 years from now.
