  1. They probably wont. The Air force already have the F-22 Raptor which out perform the F-35 but the F-35 has STOVL which the Navy and Marine Corps needs.

    Its like why the Air force have the F-15 Eagle but not the F-18 Hornet.

The AF has named the JSF the F-35 Lightning II.  It will not have the vertical takeoff and landing option.  It's due to begin replacing the F-16 Falcons starting in 2013.  The F-22 is replacing the F-15s now.  Due to the high cost of each aircraft (approximately $83 million each), the replacement phase will take many years.
